On the 4 May 2008, the original school building at Callington Primary School will be 100 years old. The school is planning a big celebration for this event on Friday 2 May. We would like to invite former pupils and teachers of the school to our celebratory events on that day. During the school day there will be performances from the children representing changes that have taken place over the past 100 years. Visitors will be invited to visit classrooms where children will be working on themes linked to different decades since 1908. Before we can make firm arrangements for the day, we really need to know how many visitors to expect! For almost the last 16 years Newquay Street Hockey Club have been meeting and playing in the Sports Hall of Newquay Tretherras School. Now, due to some players retiring and others moving away to work and university the team is in need of more people to play. The WRVS charity have both men and women volunteers who deliver 2,700 hot lunchtime meals to the elderly and infirm around Cornwall each month. To maintain our scheme in Falmouth we are in urgent need of local regular volunteer drivers and volunteers to join our emergency team who are able to cover in times when additional cover is required. Volunteers need their own transport and are offered full training and a milage allowance when carrying out their role. Duchy Motorspares in St Stephens is involved in a community project where they de-pollute scrap vehicles for the fire brigade to practice on. This as a cost only basis. The PDSA shop at Unit 3, Old Vicarage, St Austell, raises funds to provide free veterinary treatment in the local area, where St Austell PDSA PetAid practice cares for the sick and injured pets of people in need. They are urging local supporters to donate any unwanted items such as gowns, bridesmaid dresses, men’s shirts, jackets, trousers and ties to our shop.
